The English language, like all languages, has rules which must be applied to make speech and writing understandable.

Or should it be inderstandable? Or just standable?

Something can be described as incredible. Why not uncredible? The prefix un is frequently used in the negative.

Unbeliveable- or inbelievable?

Unedible or inedible?

Political correctness or incorrectness has made the language even more difficult. Why is a female mayor not called The Lady Mayor? Or even Mayoress? We certainly couldn't belittle (or is that little) the person be calling her a Mayorette-could we?

There are a lot more examples of English absurdity-how about some more examples?

(Christmas time-too much time on my hands and nothing better to do.)Tongue

I must say, I am whelmed by your observations.  Please excuse my sheveled appearance.  Is congress the opposite of progress?  Sometimes it seems so.  However, I do not think of it as a benefit when congress says that they got more done this year than they did the last.  I think that a female mayor is not called a lady mayor because she is a politician, not a lady.  But, which will get you into more trouble, a lady mayor, or a female minor?
