C'mon Spain! Spain is passing well, and controlling the pace of the game, but they still haven't had too many great scoring opportunities save Villa's in the beginning.

Well one thing is certain, the winner of this WC is a first time winner which is a first.

That makes no sense since every team that has won it has been a first time winner the first time they won it.

....Spain 1 Germany 0.....oh well, bang goes my desired Dutch v Germans final.....it was a watchable match although it could have done with Spain scoring earlier on to add some fizz to the remainder of play...

....i dunno, i just can't muster any kind of feeling towards Spain, neither positive or negative, quite indifferent in fact...i will watch the final because, hey, its football!!..but im not bothered who wins now.....

Well at the end of the day it doesn't matter if you have scored 4 goals or 10 goals, all you have to do is get one better than the opposite team and that's a policy that Spain has kept intact very well.
The game looked as if Spaniards were joking around with the ball since Germans were amongst those spectators that were granted special pass to the field itself.

A deserving win to Spain who now sets up the game against Dutch, another good team that plays with possession tactic so it would be a great treat to watch and hopefully Spain will end their curse of choking at the final point of Big Tournaments (which I guess they have already done that by Winning the Euro back in 2008).

Espana para el campeonato del mundo...

De Jong is very lucky to be in this game after that kung fu kick to Xabi Alonso's chest.

A extremely complicated game from both sides. It is heading for penalties unless Robben doesn't miss again.

Spain has been very wasteful of their chances so far - a couple of solid opportunities for goals have been squandered.

The Dutch deserved their cards - they have nobody to blame but themselves. Hard, rash fouls need to be punished, and Robben's petulance and immaturity earned him his card. Robben whiffed two good opportunities that Casillas saved. Spain out possessed, outplayed and deserved to win.

I think that there is going to be another Iniesta Generation in Spain...

The first pass was a clear cut offside, the Spanish deserved at least one red card as well and were no less rough than the Dutch. Another good example why instant relpay should be introduced.

Pretty much ... Iniesta should've been red carded a long time ago to begin with for all his flopping. One of the worst world cup matches I've seen in a while.

Congrats Spain for being the new Italy.

I demand the stoning of es_bih for commiting sports adultery! The Dutch were fortunate that the Ref was as benign as he was! ESPN pundits were livid over the sloppiness exhibited by the Orangemen who repeatedly played "the man" rather than the ball. De Jong was positively disgusting and, frankly, given the repeated Dutch outbursts directed at him, the Ref would have been justified in red carding the entire team! As for instant replay, the camera only provided evidence for use against the "also rans".

Anyway, after all is said and done the better team did win...and I believe that es_bih is upset because he gambled against the odds. Bet he lost a bundleEvil Smile!

By the way, did anyone notice how quickly Bert van Marwijk practically tore the "silver" from his neck as he walked away from the podium?

Well guys at the end of the day what matters is WIN and in this scenario the World Cup itself, so don't bother yourself with saying the had 12th player or that there were cards against Dutch or what so ever.
The end result is Espana is the new World Champions and that could not be changed.
At the end of the great tournament we now have a more expensive Barca players (which is great), the ticket to visit Senor Paul (which turned out to be a Spanish agent Wink ) is now 10x more expensive and YES another Iniesta Generation is in the making right as we are speaking :D

Its good to see that football ended up winning the world cup. If Holland won after their travesty of a display, (Van Bommell will be in my nightmares) then football would have suffered immensely.

Well done Spain.

Get real Es Bih. The Dutch should have received a red card in the first 20 minutes. They made a mockery of the game. If anything the officials have been too lenient during this world cup, bruisers have been allowed to stem the flow of real football. In many ways its been a disgrace.

What good football did Spain play in the tournament to begin with?

Spain is the all time least scoring champion and won 4 games in a row with late 1-0 final score.

As for the referee, he was just as bad with the Spanish and this isn't mine or es_bih's opinion, it is the opinion of almost everyone I know even diehard Spanish supporters.

Anyway this game according to all greybeards is the worst final since 1990 and definitely worse than all the previous 4 finals that I saw.

How well can you expect a team to play when almost every team they match up against parks a bus in the penalty box? Even against these teams Spain dominated possession, pass accuracy, and shots. Goals scored is not the only indicator of good play. I've seen plenty of games that were entertaining, and where teams have played well, but because of solid defense, or a skilled keeper, the score was low.

At least Spain tried to play the game, the Dutch were doing the old bruiser routine... I agree it was the worst world cup final in living memory, but I blame the mentality of the Dutch (Which is to stifle, not create, and chop, not play) Horrible stuff. The referee was far too lenient.

Short passes, no scoring, and infamous floppers? Congrats spain on playing like pu--ies.

As far as they yellow cards. It was a travesty. The bigger one cam after the match when Fifa announced 96% by their crappy officials. Webb was short of mentally challenged during the entire game. Instant replay hopefully comes to fruition.

How did Spain save football? By not letting the game flow for 70 mins and scoring a late goal? Lame attempt if you ask me.

PS: This is a contact sport, play like men or relegate yourself to the women's league(yes you iniesta and others). I cannot stand all the flopping around.

The problem with 'playing like men' is that its terrible to watch. Who would you rather watch play, Bolton or Barcelona? Football is a contact sport but don't confuse that with the idea that football is a thugs sport.
