Mohamed Noor's lawyers have asked the presiding Judge to sentence him to two weeks imprisonment per year for the unprovoked shooting of an Australian woman.

ARE THEY SERIOUS?

Noor shot and killed an unarmed woman (wearing her night clothes) after she had reported what she thought may have some sort of assault taking place near her home.Angry

On arrival at the scene, Noor, a police officer, drew his service firearm and shot her dead, later claiming that he had suspected an ambush situation.

He was sentenced to 12 1/2 yrs in prison.

Now, members of the Somali community, of which Noor is a part, are protesting that he's the victim of racism.

ARE THEY SERIOUS?

Would they have protested had the victim been black?Angry

Is this a case that happened in the United States?

The fact that she is Australian, or the fact that he is Somalian _should_ have nothing to do with the case (unless someone is arguing for a pattern of behavior, although that would smack of profiling).

Spot on. Her nationality has nothing at all to do with his sentence, nor has the fact that he's Somali by birth. Forget all of that.

FACT: An unarmed woman, having called the police, was shot and killed by one of those attending.

I never supported the charge of Murder 1, Noor's act, IMHO, more one of gross negligence, manslaughter.

Again, IMO, the sentence of 12.5 years is appropriate, and a non-parole period of 9-10 years would have been appropriate too.

I don't like Noor's comment here, what was he thinking? Did he want to see if he could get away with it bc everyone is so absurdly PC? Did he want to know if he could kill with immunity?
There were other shootings involving this officer and they are going to reopen those investigations.
The local police were not shy about trying to protect Noor and themselves from this third degree murder charge. Noor is talking about race after he takes this innocent woman from her family, it's disgraceful, very sad. The jury was instructed to convict for third degree if they felt that the defendant had a depraved state of mind, not a drive your car into a crowd depravity- reckless disregard for human life, depravity. So the sentence came from that finding of depravity.

"Had other cops went to jail and been prosecuted the same way, I would say, 'OK, I'm happy with the result.' But this really tells me, the system is really only made for one audience, and that's the white audience," Abdirahman said.
