Although this happened several weeks back, I think we were all too busy with the Christmas Season and New Year's preparations to discuss it. Thus, I decided to post a link to an article dealing with the incident.

Basically, a mentally disturbed woman who had tried to attack the pope a year before jumped a barricade and was tackled by security guards. She did, however, manage to grap the pope's vestments, and thus the 82 year old pontiff went crashing to the floor with you. With a remarkable degree of fortitude and composure he got up, only slightly visibly shaken, and continued with the Mass.

There are a host of things we could discuss about this, and I'll leave it fairly open. We could talk about the nature of Vatican security, which has its own set of challenges, in a modern world. We could discuss whether or not the Vatican should press charges against the woman, who is apparently mentally disturbed. We could discuss the amazing fact that not was the pontiff uninjured, but he was able to continue with the service -- a cardinal who was injured had was afforded the luxury of sitting down and going to the hospital, as the chief celebrant, Benedict was not. Anyway, go to it guys. Smile
