Costs of living rising. General inflation. Pay freezes. Deteriorating work conditions.

All this means more and more Britons today have less and less income to the point where many and increasing numbers do not have much in the way of disposable income, are depressed and work is a means of survival not living.  In other words: the real world... or slavery to the perpetuation of the debt based thin air economy that failed them.

Compared to France we are a joke.

A nation of consumers who produce less than they consume.  There has to be something wrong in this equation.  Simple economics.  The only thing keeping us afloat whilst at the same time drilling holes in the hull is banking. Banks are literally making a killing.

There are a couple of reasons why a nation that 'produces less than it consumes' doesn't infringe any economic equations.

One is that there are things that get produced that don't get consumed.

Another is that the measure of what has been produced/consumed varies between individuals and groups. (That difference is pretty well what makes the economic world go around.

There have always been groups of people who consumed more than they produced, notably church hierarchies, military castes, landowners, even the National Union of Miners at one point. While 'nation' has no real economic referent, there's no reason why a 'nation' shouldn't be such a group.

I'm talking about a whole national economy not just society's elites.  Measured in financial terms, the UK produces less than it consumes; It operates at a deficit which anyone will know is unsustainable at national level.  It is a failure.  The only thing keeping it afloat is sovereign borrowing.  Almost any other nation would be declared a failed state but the UK for some reason can continue to borrow, probably because it has such a massive stake in the global finances.

Germany, France - they know that an economy needs substance and have always done so. Britain lost its economic nous numerous decades ago long before it ascribed to the ludicrous ideology of globalisation.

Basically, the country has reached terminal economic capacity and is shrinking to match its place in the new world order with the latent BRIC powerhouses on the rise.  Kind of reminds me a bit of Rome.  A mass of unemployed people at home kept sedate by mindless entertainment and hand outs fuelled by an unsustainable exploitative, though increasingly grovelling, foreign economic policy which has the opening of closed economies to British companies as a key strategy. Will it work? If it doesn't then the Uk is a ticking timebomb on so many levels.
