I believe cook was the pilot who managed to get ships past Quebec.

I hadn't heard that. My understanding is that although Cook attempted to confirm the North West Passage, he failed, as did many others including Hudson.

I'm not sure who actually navigated the entire passage and proved its existence. Do you know?

Was it Amundsen?
