    Posted: 25 May 2014 at 05:17

In 380 AD, Roman Catholicism became the official religion of the Roman Empire and for the next 1000 years, it was the only recognised Christian organisation.

Over the 1600 odd years that have passed, the Roman Catholic Church has been plagued by corruption and allegation of involvement in decidedly non-Christian activities. It has also arguably been the organisation most associated with Secret Societies throughout the world.

In 2003, the Christian Religion, and particularly the Roman Catholic Church, was in turmoil over the publication of Dan Browns book The DaVinci Code. A fictional work, the book alleged that Mary Magdalene and Jesus had married and bore children; there was evidence to support this; that the Merovingians were descendants of Jesus and Mary; and that the line existed through to modern day.

The book alleged that two Roman Catholic Secret Societies were involved in a cover-up of the true facts and one was in fact engaged in elimination of any evidence to support the Merovingian theory. The secret societies involved were the Literati and the Priory of Sion.

The Illuminati was started by Jean Adam Weishaupt. Weishaupt was born in Bavaria on February 6, 1748.

Since then, according to the Illuminati, their top goal has been to achieve a “one world government” and to subjugate all religions and governments in the process.  The Illuminati thus attribute all wars since the French Revolution as having been fomented by them in their pursuit of their goals. After the French Revolution, the Illuminati went underground, assuming different names, with the ultimate goal of one day reaching a New World Order.  This Order would consist of a one world government, in which every nation will be destroyed, to be led by the few powerful men of the Illuminati.  Within the New World Order are plots to centralize banks and have a single world currency, centralize and control the media and schools and to abolish all religion and morality.

Today, the Illuminati is said to exist in various guises, and still plays a major role in world politics, finances, and, of course the Roman Catholic Church. Many articles and books have been written about the Illuminati, and I invite you to read some of them for deeper background on its members and their activities.

The Priory of Sion (from the French Prieure de Sion) is alleged to be a secret society founded in the 11th century its said purpose to preserve and protect the original precepts of Christianity and act as guardian to Jesus and Mary Magdalene's sacred bloodline.

Other assertions include: The Priory of Sion was founded in 1099 CE and is sworn to return the Merovingian dynasty whom they believe to be the descendants of Jesus and Mary Magdalene to power; its leaders or Grand Masters have included the likes of Isaac Newton, Robert Fludd, Victor Hugo and Leonardo da Vinci; the Priory is dedicated to a united Europe and new world order; and the Catholic Church has been engaged, historically, in a war to destroy the dynasty and its protectors the Cathars  and Knights Templar in order to retain authority afforded it through a patriarchal line of Popes beginning with Peter instead of the legitimate hereditary succession that began with Mary Magdalene.  The pre 20th Century existence of the Priory of Sion has been disputed. (http://www.factfictionandconjecture.ca/files/priory_of_sion.html)

Brown unexpectedly received millions of dollars worth of free advertising for his book by virtue of the fact that everyone who thought that they were someone appeared on television programs or in the print media to castigate Brown and refute the contents of his book. The hysteria rose to such a level, that one could very well arrive at the conclusion that, ”Methinks thou dost protest too much.”

But, unfortunately for the Catholic Church, many memories were still alive to the existence of the secret P2 Lodge that existed within the Vatican, and the corrupt activities of the Vatican Bank. The alleged suicide of Roberto Calvi, by hanging (under Black Friars Bridge in London) which has since been ruled as murder. Claims have been made that factors in Calvi's death were the Vatican Bank, Banco Ambrosiano's main shareholder; the Mafia, which may have used Banco Ambrosiano for money laundering; and the Propaganda Due or P2 clandestine Masonic Lodge. Many senior members of the Catholic Church, as far afield as the USA were implicated in world wide corruption.

But, the above are not the only two Secret Societies apparently alive and well in the Roman Catholic Church.

Opus Dei, formally known as The Prelature of the Holy Cross and Opus Dei (Latin: Praelatura Sanctae Crucis et Operis Dei), is an institution of the Roman Catholic Church that teaches that everyone is called to holiness and that ordinary life is a path to sanctity. The majority of its membership are lay people, with secular priests under the governance of a prelate (bishop) elected by specific members and appointed by the Pope. Opus Dei is Latin for Work of God; hence the organization is often referred to by members and supporters as the Work. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Opus_Dei)

"Holy Mother the Church" (as the Catholic Church calls itself) can't seem to find enough things to hide not just from the world at large, but from the vast majority of its own members as well.” (http://catholicarrogance.org/Catholic/secretsocieties.html)

Opus Dei has been inextricably linked with the corrupt Vatican Bank and the murder of Robert Calvi. Opus Dei has also been implicated in the death of a Pope, although this has never been proven.

Opus Dei - which translates as 'God's work,' had long sought to take effective control of the Vatican. Their cause had been advanced by the sudden (and some say very suspicious) death of the reformer pope, John Paul the First, and the election of a keen Opus Dei  supporter, John Paul II. (See JesusWouldBeFurious.Org/murderedpope). With Machiavellian insight, senior figures of Opus Dei reasoned that with Calvi dead, the collapse of Banco Ambrosiano would surely follow. This, in turn, would shake loose powerful enemies inside the Curia, opening the way for them to gain total dominance of the Vatican. Consequently, Roberto Calvi was thrown to the Wolves.

According to Father Andrew Greeley, "Opus Dei is a devious, antidemocratic, reactionary, semi-fascist institution, desperately hungry for absolute power in the Church and quite possibly very close now to having that power. Calling the group "authoritarian and power-mad:" the American Catholic priest and author said, "Opus Dei is an extremely dangerous organization because it appeals to the love of secrecy and the power lust of certain kinds of religious personalities. It may well be the most powerful group in the Church today. It is capable of doing an enormous amount of harm. It ought to be forced to come out into the open or be suppressed.” (http://catholicarrogance.org/Catholic/secretsocieties.html)

And finally, The Knights of Malta which dates back to the time of the Crusades; its present members are reported to include some of our nation's most prominent Catholics: CIA Director William Casey; William Wilson; Vernon Walters; Senators Denton and Domenici; Alexander Haig; William Sloan; and William F Buckley, creator and leader of Young Americans for Freedom, from which many of the Reagan administration team have been drawn. According to members, the order serves "as an international defender of the Church * - In June of each year a ceremony is held in Rome for Knights of Malta which includes the "swearing of allegiance to the defence of the Holy Mother Church:" Herein lies the problem for population growth control and its recognition as a national security issue. The Knights are committed to defending the Church. Only the most devout and obedient are invited to join the Knights and Opus Dei (which its detractors have compared to mind-controlling cults). If the Vatican has determined that population growth control threatens the Holy Mother Church, the members of these societies are obliged to counter this threat by thwarting the development of population growth control government policies and their execution.

So, if all of the above is true, and no doubt Roman Catholics will argue that it isn’t, just who has been controlling not only the Catholic Church, but many other major organisations for the past six centuries?

Just how corrupt is the Vatican?

The P2 was not part of the Prioraty of Sion, the illuminaty or the Opus Dei. It was a regular masonic lodge than turned irregular following the "dark side" of the force (as George Lucas would say) and into crime. This lodge didn't have the blessing of the masonic hierarchy but, as in any human organization, sometimes the black sheeps go theirs own way.

No, I didn't mean to imply that P2 was a part of the Priory of Sion or the Illuminati or Opus Dei, but there were very close ties between Opus Dei, The Vatican Bank and P2.

Calvi approached Opus Dei for a loan. As the result of his death, the Banco Ambrosiano Bank scandal broke-revealing 1.3 billion dollars missing, much of which was later found to be in the Vatican Bank.

P2 was originally supposed have been shut down by the Grand Lodge of Italy in 1974, but it later turned out that it was only suspended. P2 became operable again.

I think it's generally accepted that senior members of the Catholic Church, particularly in the Vatican were members of, or somehow associated with both P2 and Opus Dei.

Meanwhile, the concept of a New World Order, the ultimate goal of the Illuminati, was also the goal of  The Manichaeans back in the time of St. Augustine. The Illuminati, afik, is the modern day Manichaeaism (the dualistic religious system of Manes, a combination of Gnostic Christianity, Buddhism, Zoroastrianism, and various other elements, with a basic doctrine of a conflict between light and dark, matter being regarded as dark and evil.)

The New World Order is to much for this thread and could be the subject of a new one.

A query.

How can they be secret if we know about them?

The point is, you only know the name of the societies, not what they do. That's why they are secret societies.

Damn, I knew someone would ask that!

Should I have perhaps said previously Secret Societies?

It's only in recent years that the very existence of some of these organisations has become known, and it's even more recently that their membership and activities have become known.

But even that that's not true of all of them. I don't think anyone knows the names of the full membership of Opus Dei, the Illuminati or P2. But what we do know, for instance, is the apparently corrupt financial activities of Bishops and Cardinals all over the world - most if not all of whom are believed to be members of Opus Dei and or P2. (http://www.theguardian.com/world/2010/jun/20/vatican-cardinal-corruption-inquiry-rome-property-deals)

And then of course, a different matter, the cover up of the Catholic Sexual Abuse over many decades. (http://www.alternet.org/belief/scandal-spectacle-10-most-corrupt-and-compromised-cardinals-voting-new-pope?page=0%2C0)

The situation in the Vatican is so dire, that Pope Francis has had a clean out of many of the top positions, replacing them with Archbishops and Cardinals who appear not to be tainted.

So far we haven't even touched on The Knights of Malta.

Precisely, and in many cases, we don't even know that some Secret Societies exist. If we go outside of the OP, to non religious groups, I reckon we'd all be amazed at the number of Secret Societies that exist.

Ref your: ''The Societies that we know about are not Secret Societies because we know they exist.
We don't know who their membership is nor what they do.''

I would agree that they remain mysterious as to intent and purpose but as we do know they exsist; are not secret in that regards.

As for your second para. My point. All else, until further credible evidence remains speculation.

Now educated speculation can prove useful in discerning the actuality. I don't deny that. But still, it remains speculation. Till something more firm is identified; this falls in with conspiracy theorems, observations etc.; imho.

And no, I'm not discounting the possibility that behind such theorems, there yet lurks elements of the truth or the unexplained.

best.

So, there no Secret Societies because we don't know about them, they don't exist until we do know about them, and when we do know about them, they aren't Secret Societies?Confused

It's the Ireland that was born in me.

In essence yes.

If we don't know they exist through satisfactory forms of evidence...it remains speculation, rumor, innuendo, and or a theorem yet to proved, in a valid form that they do.

Those we do know exist may yet remain mysterious; as per intent, policy, doctrine etc. and membership, as you noted.

But there's a significant difference between the former and later.

Hope that eases the confusion.

best.
