I suppose the happy thing is that I can't remember mine.  Because apparently the idiot who did it made a right bloody mess of it, I still have the scars. My older sister who was about 4 at the time remembers the scene at our house and she was pretty traumatised.  I should think i was in excruciating pain.  My best mate from across the street didn't have his done til he was about 5 or 6.

Come on you're being a little extreme there. If I were your wife's parents, I'd be more worried about why their daughter is married to someone who is so hostile to circumcision (if it is religiously mandated in their eyes), rather than about doing it behind your back.

At least try and maintain a semblance of decency. Must you speak such rubbish to prove your point?

Chopping off the end of a boys penis for religious reasons is extreme.

It is better to be done in infancy when a person grew older (5-6) it is hard and the pain and scene will be more traumatizing, since you remember everything.
If someone wants to do that, it is better to use the rings not the traditional cutting method (by knife)!

This reminds me of the Years of Rice and Salt-

Kyu got circumvated on Zeng He's treasure fleet than some how managed to become one of the most trusted advisers of the Yongle Emperor. The Mongol Warrior meanwhile swore to himself that the African child was a bad spirit.
Every ideology has a kernel of truth and sea of whitewash.

Circumcision rose to prominence in Australia and many other parts of the Anglosphere in the 50s and 60s due to the advice of prominent paediatricians such as Dr Spock who wrote in the 40s that circumcision was of tremendous value to boys provided it be performed within a few days of birth. In many ways it was simply a parenting fad. And like all fads, it passed.

Spock later retracted his advocacy for the procedure and went on to recommend against it, describing it as traumatic, painful and unnecessary.

My own father (born in the 50s) was a recipient of the practical application of Dr Spock's early advice, while I was not. In Australia and Britain the practice is now far more uncommon than common, and I believe that in Britain the NHS has stopped funding for the procedure as they do not consider it medically necessary or wise. America has not dropped off as drastically and 50-60% of baby boys will undergo the procedure, but the number is dropping.

It was never that big in the UK. What killed it off more than anything, like you said, is that its considered a private non-essential procedure (unless medicly advised), so its not funded by the NHS. Funding stopped very early Afaik, back in the late 1940s already (when the NHS was still new), which also ensured that it never caught on.
Currently its prevalence is pretty much sustained by various immigrant communities, but despite the increase in the % or the population being 'non-white' the % of newborns getting the procedure is falling. Mostly liekly explaination probably lies in the fact that the fastest growing ethnic category is 'mixed', most of whom are part white anyways.

Quote and it is not clinically available in the Uk

I'm pretty sure it is, you just have to pay for it and do it in a private clinic, some PCTs will do it, but, you have to pay up front.

I was 19 when I was circumcised. I had to get it done because I tore myself during sexual intercourse. The procedure was done in a hospital, and it still hurt like a SOB. Try waking up several times a night with an erection pulling at your stitches. I was given ammonia capsules to pop under my nose to remove the erection. I can tell you a few pros and cons. It IS much healthier. I would say the increase in sexual enjoyment is about 35%. I kid you not. I would advise any parent to have it done to their new born males without question.

Thanks for the privileged information. I guess there may be someone who is helped. Or even impressed.
