The Colony of Virginia was a Colony of England from 1607 to 1707.
It was a Colony of Great Britain from 1707 to 1776.
The name Virginia was first applied by Sir Walter Raleigh and Queen Elizabeth I in 1584.
After the English Civil War, the Virginia Colony was nicknamed "The Old Dominion" by King Charles II for its perceived loyalty to the English monarchy during the era of the Commonwealth of England.

In 1624, King James I did not like a certain government in the colonies. This government body was the House of Burgesses.
James I revoked the charter of the Virginia Company, which made Virginia a Royal Colony.

naturally. Virginia was the most productive and profitable colony for the British and I understand a minor rebellion had already taken place there with support from the House of Burgesses.I also note that despite the right royal attempts to retain the land, with new administration and local shire-style government, both religious and democratic growth saw Virgina become a major rebel area in the AWI.
