I've just read about a group of females who have or are about to graduate from the Marine Training Program, and who will be fully fledged combat soldiers.

I have respect for the US troops and the addition of young women to the front liners is something that the US should be proud of.

Of course, female fighting soldiers is nothing new, they've been around for thousands of years, and still are in countries like Israel. In the west, we've been raised on the idea that girls and women are to be nurtured, cared for and protected by men, and my view is that they still should be, but at the end of the day, if the girls (and I don't mean anything discriminatory about the word) want to fight alongside of their male counterparts, more power to them.

Militarily, the female gender has been overlooked in western countries for too long.
I often wonder why I try.
