There's a big discussion lately whether Arsinoe II (316-270BC), the queen of the reign of the Ptolemies in Egypt was the first woman Pharaoh ever. It is suggested that she was not just the wife of the King, but also served her duty as a Pharaoh.

Amongst the comments you will read:

"She was no ordinary woman. She fought in battles, and even participated in the Olympics, where she won three events for harnessed horses"

What do you think?

I do believe that Hatshepsut's ghost might have something to say about it. Daughter of Thurmose I, royal wife of Thutmose II and, since she was declared the female Horus in the titular seventh year of Thutmose III (who was but a child--and her stepson and nephew to boot), to go monument building for the remainder of her life (reigned 1473-1458 BC)--including the famed obelisk at Karnak--one can only say the Arsinoe was a bit late in her pretenses.

Here she is in the royal nemes...

Of course, Hatshepsut was the first "female pharaoh." She is quite famous, actually.

Guys, right now the only official woman Pharaoh is Cleopatra...Arsinoe is nominated, so she's not even making it yet as first woman Pharaoh. Hatshepsut is a good candidate as well. I had completely forgot her.
