So I put this in the Historical Amusement subforum because Geraldo impresses me as both amusing (in a sort of slimy way) and as a sensationalist and somewhat irrelevant piece of history. From promoting gun control and then bragging about packin' in Afghanistan to knocking over a real rescuer so that he could pretend to help someone during Katrina, his obsession with his own ego is grossly evident -- the only legitimate question is whether or not he cares about anything else. And whether you like Michelle Malkin or not, he was way over the line when he launched a viciously personal and unsupported attack on her. I really don't understand why he is still on television, much less on the premier news station in the country; the unscrupulous and clownish braggart should be busy trading fabricated stories over bargain beer in his mommy's basement. Still, I would like to know: Does anyone take him seriously?

He was at one time a serious journalist, then he got a talk show and everything went south.  Now I don't think there is a person in America that takes him seriously.

The South Park depiction of him was amusing, along with the rest of that episode which poked fun at Oprah and her silly bungling of promoting the book A million little pieces.

No, i don't. The last time he fooled me was the last time i ever took him seriously. That was the much media hyped sensational opening of Al Capone's safe.

Sometimes I wonder if he's a teenager with a fake mustache, dressed up in a costume suit. LOL

One thing about Riveria, even though he constantly fails - he still always succeeds in his career!

Panther that about sums it up. Ratings are not necessarily gained in how precise the news is presented as it is how much interest a topic can garner. Rivera fits the 'salesman' bill as good as anyone in American broadcasting today. Unfortunately, that bodes ill for our cultural landscape. I would pick Charlie Rose if you want good interviews.

Doc, no, that was Gerald Rivers, the little Jewish kid who was reborn Geraldo Rivera after a botched Puertorrican 'bris'. (Conveniently at a time when television was looking for Hispanic faces.)

No, I do not take him seriously.  However, everyone should take his mustache VERY seriously. LOL

Well, you know that Gerald aka Geraldo blamed all that on his mother! But we will not get into that typically New York chutzpah...I always get a chuckle over the nonsense of "Riviera" being a continentalized version of Rivera. Even Snopes falls for some of the blarney here...

"Cruz" is not a masculine given name in Spanish (it is a feminine) and the father's surname was Cruz Rivera, so in all actualiy little "Gerald" is not even a Rivera! But I doubt regardless of his "spin", the mustachioed one has wanted to delve too deeply there. Suffice it to say that this New Yorker has woven such a spider's web over this topic as to entrap any innoncent bystander. Shades of Sharks and Jets!
