Well, Carlos Fuentes was outstanding. I read his book about the history of Hispanic peoples, called "The buried mirror" and it was the work of a genius, because only him was able to discover a common thread from the ancient Cretans and Iberians to the modern Latins on the U.S.
He impressed me also with an article he wrote against Huntington, where the later excluded Latin America from the Western World... That was an insult to any Latin American. And it was like (sorry about this vulgarity) chilly pepper in the back of Fuentes, who wrote a devastating critic against Huntington, and that was it.
Fuentes was one of the most brilliant intellectuals of the late 20th century in Latin America. Rest in peace.
