Hello my name is Jesse and I have a podcast about the history of the Atlantic World!  It's really fun to work on, and if you are interested please check it out!

Here is a bit of a promo for episode 10, just released today!

Decades before the voyage of Columbus, the armies of Portugal and Spain face off against each other on the Canary Islands in the very first European colonial war. At risk was control of nothing less than all the wealth and power of the newly developing overseas empire based on sugar and slaves.

For the Guanche, the native islanders of the Canaries - far more was at stake.

I've always been intrigued by the Atlantis debate.

The existence of Atlantis, whether it did or didn't, is placed at the feet of Plato, who described Atlantis as being just west of The Pillars or Hercules (sometimes referred to as the Gates of Hercules". If we accept that the Pillars of Hercules were in the fact the mouth of the Mediterranean Sea, that would place Atlantis somewhere in the Atlantic Ocean.

Experts in many fields have argued both for and against the story of Atlantis, which has never been discovered by archaeologists, despite many searches in and around the Mediterranean and to the west of Gibraltar.

If Atlantis existed, it would be more than reasonable to expect that other scholars of the time would have mentioned it. But, is it possible that the city did exist and sunk beneath the ocean surface as the result of a major earthquake? Possible, but no-one has mentioned that such an event took place (during the relevant period).

As ever, I maintain an open mind on this.

Absence of evidence is not evidence of absence.

for me its not question whether there were older or not civilisation before the little ice age, but how come some ancient myth even nowadays is motor for many enlightened humanists that even seek to revive roger bacons new-atlantis, even they have north-atlantic council etc. its like someones dreams became reality! who knows maybe the egyptean priest was after all right in his story but who can tell how solons seconhand storytelling was facelifted and how plastos narrative evolved, almost all passing along is getting additives to stay fresh for trendy consummation!

if this myth is also combined with those of Apollo and Hyperborea etc. maybe we can find it as in jigsaw puzzle where was Atlantis and if eventually existed, tho knowing that the ionian greks are phoenicians probably we should also look to the akkadian tales too, I dont have time for such inquiry, but must say too many time is wasted by world trying to find maybe something that was just future prophecy expressed in past-tense, who knows what were the  egyptean astral excursion and how they recognized them, tho there is evidence too of extraterrestrials like those anunaki from the book of Enoch thus it cant be completly rulled out the hypothesis for advanced before the great flood advanced civilization, tho I would say they were more advanced on the spiritual level than technological altho having some technological know-how which was delivered by those anunaki visitors, yet this can be only misleading from point of archaeology, but can contribute to some modern storyteller podcast gifts from popularity and monetization!
