Hypothetical

North Korea denuclearises and vows to not pursue weapons such as this in future.

In response, both Russia and China lift trade sanctions and help North Korea build it's economy. They form a Trade Pact, which is joined by the Philippines, Viet Nam, Laos, Cambodia and Thailand.

Officials from Papua New Guinea, Vanuatu and Indonesia hold talks with the new Far East Trade pact and are offered membership, in exchange for considerations such as sea ports and airfields, and of course trade deals. The countries claiming the South China Sea islands agree to share them with other members of the Trade Pact, notably China and Russia.

China builds more aircraft carriers and stations them in the South China Sea.

South Korea and Japan are not invited into the Trade Pact.

Simultaneously, China makes more inroads in Africa, more airfields, sea ports and trade deals.

No what does the US and it's allies do?

__________________________________________________________________________________

While the above is hypothetical, it is based on some recent factual activity;

1. We all know about the US/NoKo Denuclearisation talks;
2. We also know that NoKo has been getting much friendlier with China recently, two visits by Kim personally, and more by his senior staff;
3. Duarte of the Philippines has expressed pro-Chinese sympathies, and also Russian. That country needs economic support and could easily look northward;
4. There have been pretty solid rumours of China doing a deal with Vanuatu for a sea terminal;
5. Indonesia, alone among the countries mentioned, is a Muslim nation, the most populous in the world. It owes nothing to Australia, the US and it's allies;
6. China has just launched it's second large Aircraft Carrier;
7. We know about the militarisation of the Spratleys and the Paracele Islands by China;
8. China is making inroads in Africa;
9. NoKo just could be the catalyst for closer ties between China and Russia-especially when both countries see themselves as world powers.

Hypothetical? Hopefully!
It's not that I was born in Ireland,
It's the Ireland that was born in me.
