I had written a very long essay style rant, which I lost by accidentally clicking the back button. Seriously, it was probably the most eloquent and far sighted piece of rhetoric since Churchill praised the RAF during the battle of Britain. And its gone! All gone! In fifty years time, schoolchildren would probably have been studying it. Isn't there something we can do to save information that we're in the middle of typing up? Its a serious disincentive to write long posts.

When i am done typing a post that i am particularly proud of i usually right click the mouse button and and click "copy" in case of accidents, all i have to do is right click the mouse again and click "paste" to restore what i had lost.

When I'm writing posts more than 3 lines long, I use notepad and save regulary.
If it's a complex post I'm quoting, I still copy the content to notepad and every time I have a comment I write the QUOTE-tags..

[ QUOTE=North]
My comments....xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
[ /QUOTE]

In contrast to MS-Word and other editors, the content from notepad has no formatting codes and will paste into the forum editor without problems.

Then you can do the formatting (bold, italic, indents and so on) in the forum editor.

Have a few beers and renew the motivation to type out your rant. I look forward to it.

Back 5 or 6 or 7 years ago, we used to get a lot of webpage resets and sometimes after pressing post reply it would not send. That has never been a problem for me with WH's current set up. But just out of force of habit I highlight my entire post and then press ctrl+c before I submit my post.

What exactly is your problem? Does your webpage reset itself while you are typing the post or does the post not go through after your press send?

I know exactly where you're coming from Parnell.  That very thing has turned me into the ill worded, spiteful, miserable wretch you see on these forums toda.

While CXI certainly is right that the forum software has been running  without problems for the past many years, I don't agree that a number of beers can solve anything. Wink
But it's essential to be aware that there are several other things that can go wrong besides the forum software  - Too many things to mention here - but we all know the sayings -
"Better safe than sorry".
and
"Real men don't do backup - they cry".

I've switched to using Google Chrome for posting to this and other sites. It help if on clicking send you get an error message, because the back button takes you to the previous page as submitted (i.e. with your changes), where other browsers only give you the page as it was received (i.e. without your changes).

Doesn't help if you delete stuff before you send however, which is a more common problem here though.

Never mind my earlier advice above. I just spent an hour worth of my time typing out an eloquent response to Captain Vancouver only to accidentally hit the back space button instead of the intended enter button. AngryCensoredAngry

I'm with you Parnell, except we should focus our anger on the inventors of the qwerty keyboard system and expose their diabolically evil a$$e$ for what they are!  AngryAngryAngry  %$@#!$#%Censored
