Hello,

I am from India and came across this site while trying to find something about post-Nihavand Sassanians on Google. I find the breadth and depth of discussions here quite informative.

I have an amateur's interest in history with a soft spot for Rome.

Awesome! When I was a kid I made some bows with long hazelnut tree sticks and laundry rope LOL It was pretty lame but still was easily able to penetrate wooden arrows into trees. Cool

Thank you gentlemen for your warm welcome. I will paste some photos on the project's completion. I'm at the stage now that it takes more than myself to continue. It was four of my friends at the beginning, but trying to get them to show up, or even some of them with free time is a pain. Mind you if it's for salt water fishing, or even bay fishing, it's a stampede over to my place. I have hired help on the Ranch, but they of course want paid for their labor. That sort of takes some of the romance and feeling goodness out of it.  How inconsiderate of them. I should call immigration on them.Wink

If the project is too big for you, here is an alternative more suitable.

Well may God bless you. I really do enjoy fishing. I'm totally...hooked. I'm fortunate enough to live within a comfortable driving distance of the Texas coast. We have everything from Marlin to Flounder. My bud and I once came home with exactly 200 Flounder. We gigged them with lights from the boat to illuminate them on the bottom at night. A gigger is a three pronged spear thingy. It's quite legal. I also enjoy hunting, but the rule is, you eat what you kill. (Don't hit a skunk!!) On our place we have feral Boar, Deer. We also have all kinds of birds. Dove, Ducks, they are all not on the agenda. Not the birds. I just don't think it fair to use a shotgun on anything. Many of them end up dying days later in the brush. The odd flock of Turkeys we don't hunt. (I get them confused with some pain in the ass visitors.) LOL

So, are you my big brother or sister?
Cheers, Matt.

Hello everybody,
Thank you for having me.  I am currently a history teacher near Chicago IL and just recently found this forum.  The topics are interesting and the member knowledge seems quite extensive.  I look forward to contributing in the near future after reading for awhile.
On a personal history note, I enjoy discussing the War of 1812 along with the wider Napoleonic Wars.  I also have a passion for Byzantine history and current US politics/wars.  As a hobby, I coach/play water polo and am interested in Warhammer (tabletop game).

We are honored and glad to have you. The war of1812 is an interesting war though little discussed. I look forward discussing this with you in any thread you open or contribute to. There is also a fascinating new thread just opened on Waterloo that i think you would find enjoyable:

The British at Waterloo

We would love to read and learn from whatever you wish too share.

We also have a highly esteemed member of staff here by the name of Akolouthos, a fellow educator like yourself, who also shares your interest in Byzantine history.

US or international politics and wars, how can all the drama not be discussed together!

And water polo is a exceedingly fun and healthy way in staying fit. But i am at a loss for Warhammer. This is the first time i have heard of it? Not my fault, i swear. The wife keeps me chained up in the dungeon 20 out 24 hours of the day. Well, that isn't really true. It's just the reason i usually give for my hermit lifestyle.Big smile

Cheers,
Panther

Hey Panther,

Warhammer is a game played with miniature soldiers/monsters on a tabletop.  You buy, build, paint, and fight battles with your miniatures.  It's pretty fun but can get quite expensive.

Just realize that I may have never introduced myself.

My name is Ron and I come from the San Francisco Bay Area. I usually spend my time at another forum, but I have quite a few friends over here, so I thought I would split my time over here as well, in order to meet a new group of folks and get some differing views on some good topics.
