I am curious of something. I am just starting to learn about the Irish uprising of 1641 in response to the plantations, but I don't understand why the Gaelic Irish Catholics and Old English were in favour of Charles. Besides being loyal to Charles, I also don't understand the role of the royalist army in Ireland. I can't seem to understand how they made their presence there. Thanks!

I would suggest that, in order to get a good grip on the situation in Ireland at the time of the 1641 Rising, you read up on the history of Ireland from the first English invasion.
This will help you understand that mix of Irish and Normans who at various times opposed the Crown or supported in and why.
For a good over view of the situation and the 1641 Rising, which was not the first, or the last, see:-

Simple answer - they opposed the puritans under Cromwell - therefore the enemy of my enemy is my ally. In opposing Cromwell (and the suspected onset of religious persecution) - they supported the Restoration of Charles II (and thus supported the royalist cause). Both the Gaelic Irish and the Old English were Catholic. They were willing to provide the king with troops if he granted full tolerance of their religion.

The above comments are accurate. Most of the plantation settlers, especially in the north, were Presbyterian Lowland Scots, who supported Cromwell. The dispossessed Gaelic Irish peasantry, as well as the Old Anglo-Irish aristocracy, supported the royalists.

Excuse me, but, Cromwell wasn't in Ireland in 1641. He was chosen to lead English forces there in 1649. Before that he'd only served in the local county militia.
