That's a fascinating article, thank you for raising this topic, CV.

It would be interesting to know, however, why the author credits training to kill as being responsible for Vietnam vets' PTSD but diverges and then decides to say that Iraq and Afghan vets' PTSD occurs just because 'it's the expected thing to happen'. Did the training to kill suddenly stop being important for Iraq and Afghan vets?

What other factors might have played a role in British soldiers coping better psychologically with the aftermath of their tours?

If you hate your parents then do what I did and move out. I was 16 at the time and I'm willing to bet you are a fair bit older than that. Problem solved, and you avoid having your behind tenderised everytime you drop the soap at your local penitentiary by an ex-Navy bloke by the name of Bubba.

Without reading the article and in answer to the thread header: I would hazard that the ease with which one can commit homicide is not so simple and it has many variables, such as circumstances of the killing, upbringing and general formative social environment of the killer as well as, in military contexts, psychological training, physical training and means of killing at killer's disposal - it's far easier for some geek controlling a UAV to press a button from 20km away than for a real soldier using his bayonet.
