King Frederick William I of Prussia reigned from 1713 until 1740.     
He was known as the "Sergeant King".       
He believed the key to influence lay in military strength.     
Over the course of his reign he built up a strong army.   
To fund this Frederick William instigated numerous domestic reforms that vastly improved Prussia's economy.

As a boy Frederick William saved his pocket money to form a company of cadets whom he drilled himself.
