It would be to my pleasure if the members of this forum would provide their knowledge of Mogadishu. Specifically the economic relations between Mogadishans and foriegn peoples throughout the course of history.

-What were the Mogadishans known to export/import

-When was there a period of economic boom for Mogadishu

-Who were the main buyers of Mogadishu's goods?

-Who sold the most product to Mogadishu

-In your opinion, what peoples influenced the Mogadishan econonomy the most?

I was hoping for another view besides Wiki. Rather all the websites regarding this topic are based upon or merely copies of the Wikipedia article.

Also, did the Dervish State ever control Mogadishu, or was it concentrated in Northern Somalia?

I can partially answer some of this but wouldn't mind the info myself.

Mogadishu was part of the trading network that spanned the Indian Ocean. Most of the traders would have been Swahili, Arab, Persian, Indian, and Malay. And of course Somali. Goods would have flow as far as China but I cannot say what Mogadishu itself was importing or exporting.

Boom time for Mogadishu was the 15th century, before the Portugese pirates arrived. Apart from Somalis themselves, Arabs and Swahili would've been the biggest trading influence.
