I am an avid collector of these little trees, but since cousin is coming from China to stay with me, she is a little bored since Penjing (Chinese Bonsai) is so expensive to buy and illegal to take hers with her. So, I decided that while we are at home and are a little tired and need to do something relaxing (that is, after we feed the cats and dogs that go absolutely crazy 24/7) to do. The other 602 bonsai I have had for a long time and I have made sure that they stay miniature, both me and my cousin decided to grow a new bonsai! We only know what style it will be: multiple trunk, and possibly growing on a rock. Now we decide what kind, and where to put it. The oldest tree I've had is a regular Pine that I planted in 1956, and I took it everywhere with me, now it is the most expensive in appraisal (Due to style, age, quality, height: 1ft. 2in., weight: 6 lbs. including pots and decorations, and health), at $300. I call it the International Pine because it never went out of my side. I took it everywhere that I had an office or a place to set it down. Wish me and Bei Lan luck!

I found a little miracle in my back yard, a baby cedar tree fo an emergency backup. Let's hope if the Jack Pine doesn't make it (still being cold stratified for germination), this little one does!! I think the cedar will be  semi-cascade, or cascade because it's more ameanable to bending. Wish me luck!!!

I will post them as soon as the Cedar takes root! It's currently keeping the shishis company while I make attempts to re-grow the tree that I had to cut a few roots in order to get the thing out from under an Oak tree and stick the little plant into a pot. But I do have pictures of a few of my others that have lasted the years. I also have a few pictures of Bei Lan's collection (all of which are now living with my cousin in San Francisco until they are made sure of not having any foreign diseases, then my cousin, who is probably buried in bonsai trees and dragon statues who highly dislike him, will finally deliver all of Bei Lan's bonsais and dragons to come so they have a better place to live), they are even older than my oldest one. One of them is old enough to have seen the Taiping Rebels, and is pretty big for a simple Penjing! I'll post the photos as soon as I find them!

I found a few of them already! Here they are!

This is Bei Lan's pride and joy. I have NO IDEA HOW IN HELL SHE GOT THAT TO WORK!!! It is aged at 77 years old, as of April, 2012.

These are a few of my 5-10 year olds. They all vary in style, and were almost IMPOSSIBLE to get the trunk to turn into curls in a few of them, while others are growing on, or inside rocks (don't ask how I know how to grow them in rocks. It all works on luck, and if the holes in the rock are big enough!)

My lucky Penjing Blossoming Semi-Cascade! About 14 years old

A younger of Bei Lan's collection. About 20 years old. This is a lucky bonsai because she accidentally set the poor thing on fire one day, and it's still alive!!

My 56 year old International Pine bonsai!!! My favorite because how little it took to design it. It is also known by my relatives in Chengdu by Da Penjing.

My Cascade Bonsai, about 40 years old. You have NO IDEA how hard it was to get the branch to grow like that!!!

What is soon to be known as Er Penjing. It is a 150 year old family heirloom, which has been modified a lot by Bei Lan. It was repotted in 1950 on a marble slabe, and just stayed as-is.

A 60 year old tree that Bei Lan is growing around what I can only assume a dead tree. She's got the green thumb for sure, like her father!!

Ahh, the more colorful of trees, a Japanese Maple that I am working on. About 7-8 years old

Multiple trunk/semi cascade! I've had this one for about 30 years, and have repotted it 15 times.

This little pine tree I call Old Pine's brother, I planted a few days after Da Penjing. Now we call it xiao Penjing because it is a little smaller than the other.

Another semi- cascade/literati design from the wacky and wonderful mind of Bei Lan. A 93 year old woman can't tie her own shoes because of spine problems, but she can make a poor tree look like a fish hook!! this one is about 3 years old.

This one, I got lucky, and the damn thing grew on a rock like I wanted it to! I planted this one while I was touring Germany in the '80s

I wrote the "happy bonsai" because it was merciful enough to actually let me make it into a semi-cascade, unlike many failed attempts. Planted in 1970s

This one is currently the second-in-command of Bei Lan's collection, second only to the family heirloom. It  has a little of everything in it here and there, except the growing out of, or on rocks. It is my age, 84!!!

This one is called the Cruella DeVille of all of the bonsais... PURE EVIL!!! THIS BONSAI IS ABSOLUTELY EVIL!!! First, Shanghei and I wanted to try an Umbrella style, which made that cursed beast grow roots from its branches!! Then, a few weeks later, we find the darn thing escaping its pot, killing other plants by attacking their root system with its devilish roots that completely DESTROYED the $88 pot that we put it in! After we figured out which ones had the newer roots of this devil of a plant clogging up the drain in the pot with its roots, we had to throw away $600 of bonsai trees, and pots! nd now, we keep the plant in its own room, all alone, where the only victims there can be are guests who sleep there Evil Smile!! It looks like a tassel that went horribly wrong!!!

So beautiful Smile I always wanted living furnitures Tongue Although calling these babies as furnitures might be rude. I would do this staff if they didn't need so much time and care. Better I should grow regular crops and flowers. Still I'm willing to give a try with some easy Bonsai plants. Since how I love smell of humid black soil Smile

But their soil appears to be dry and orange coloured. Maybe in order to limit their growth Smile

Thanks, I still think it looks a little weird for the original plan, but we still keep it because we are terrified to see what that thing will do if we try to get rid of it. It might exact its revenge on the old bonsai plants. The most diabolical tree ever!
