Yes, a new continent, no, not Atlantis.  The youtube podcast, "What da math?" is mainly an astronomy podcast, but one episode the host (good Russian name, I momentarily can't remember though), from Toronto talked about a new continent called Zealandia, which is mainly underwater, but sticks up in New Zealand and New Caledonia.  But, the discovery does have political ramifications, because ownership of nations goes out to the continental shelf.  This is not just an extension of the Australian continent.

With sea levels set to rise 6' in the next century and a real risk of a massive 250' increase if CO2 levels exceed the safe maximum, I hardly think a redefinition of oceanic geography is going to worry anyone.

National boundaries go out into the ocean a certain distance _or_ to the continental shelf.  This discovery means more national territory for New Caledonia and New Zealand, albeit underwater.  That probably means exclusive fishing rights.  So, yes, it is worth it to look at the oceanic geography for New Zealand and New Caledonia, they do stand to benefit.
