Neil Marshall, the man who made Descent has made a new movie, this time about some Romans who are fleing trough a hostile Scottland, after their legion has been ambushed. The movie is set in the 2th century AD and its name is Centurion:

One of the adversaries of the Romans, the pictish warrior woman Etain:

I don't think this film tries to be very serious.
"There was glory in pissing, Corabb decided as he watched the stream curve out and make that familiar but unique sound as it hit the ground." So true.

The blurb is hilarious!

This isn't going to be a pathetic repetition of the King Arthur plot, is it? That was such an awful film. Apparantly King Arthur was protecting Hadrians wall, the saxons land just north of it so they are forced to lay siege to the fortification... when the idiots could have landed a few miles south... And there was one character who had so many children he just called them 'bastard 1, bastard 2...' hahahahaha etc.

Here is a review of the movie:

"Centurion": Trapped in the Roman Empire's Vietnam. Michael Fassbender stars in a riveting action flick set in 2nd-century Britain -- with distinctly modern echoes

Yet another movie that may morph the minds of the unknowing? Let us hope it is a movie of the historical time period and not of historical events, as this is when the populace takes a movie as fact.

"I am moved to pity, when I think of the brevity of human life, seeing that of all this host of men not one will still be alive in a hundred years time."

OK, but as I understand it, the movie was based on the Roman IX Legion which, after battling Pictish tribes in southern Scotland, apparently vanished.

Had the Legion returned to Rome or to another Roman garrison, that fact would have been recorded.

Had the Legion been wiped out, that would have been recorded.

But no, nothing was ever heard again of the IX Legion apparently.

Speculation has been rife over the centuries but no one has come up with a satisfactory answer as to its fate. No graves have been found, no hoards of weapons or armour.

One theory is that the IX Legion, which had been based in Spain, simply tired of battle, laid down their arms and blended into the local communities.

To me, that makes sense.
Once you eliminate the impossible,
whatever remains,
no matter how improbable, must be the truth.
