Sounds right, if you like such linguistics information, you might find John McWhorter interesting, he has several DVD collections by the Great Courses, and is on Youtube, talking about, amongst other things, Black English.  He makes a convincing case that Black English is a real thing, and linguistically deserves to be treated as such.
