Several years ago, a Muslim cleric in Australia publicly commented that western women displayed themselves like plates of meat.

He was, of course, referring to the modesty of traditional Islamic female garb, opposed to that of western women.

His comments caused national outrage, as he probably knew they would, but let's have a look at female fashion in the western world.

a. Dresses and skirts are so high that the genital area is only just covered;

b. In the case of jeans, they are worn so low that the pubic region is barely covered, and often so tight that the genitals are clearly outlined;

c. Tops are very low, barely covering the female breasts and are so tight as to leave nothing to the imagination;

d. Where dresses and skirts are patterned, the pattern often highlights the groin area; and

e. So called beach wear is so minute as to almost not cover the essentials.

Now, western men derive a great deal of entertainment from the above, but was the cleric wrong in his comments?

I don't think so, but do I want it to change? I don't know.

It's not that I was born in Ireland,
It's the Ireland that was born in me.

Sometimes I despair for the future of the human race. China has made its world debut by burning masses of coal, and ensuring global warming, and picking fights with its neighbors over negligible bits of rock; in Australia you have protected great whites (and left surfers and swimmers to their own devices). And now another nutty cleric who is terrified of women's bodies. Is there a future for us?

My advice: take the lad out and get him drunk, and introduce him to some nice ladies (or perhaps some not so nice). That will loosen him up.

Sounds very much like his counterpart on the Christian fundamentalist side. Reinventing or revising scriptures or attempting adherence to that which was 1500-2500 year old dress code for Muslims and Jews. Transferred to Christianity.

Iow. Times have changed so have dress codes. Btw, this isn't new. They were arguing this 1500-200 years ago and also threatening dire retribution.

Modern times dictate personal choice given the parameters of the modern law..in modern states..not ancient. While in fundamentalist theocratic based ones. Let them remain in the age of unreason. It's they who are in a 'dark age'.

Besides who is he, like his modern Christian counterpart, to tell me what I'm to do in the first place.

If I offend GOD.

I'm certain he will advise me..hence the fundamentalist wacks of all bents need not call. Nor attempt to speak for Him.

BLASPHEMY!!! He's a Muslim priest, he doesn't drink alcohol!

He wouldn't cohabit with a woman who was not his wife!

And he's certainly not a lad.

As for the protection of Sharks, why should we slaughter them just because they eat the occasional human?

Swimmers and surfers can always opt to not swim and surf, the shark needs to eat.

Simple as that!

Eye candy is all well and good, but at my advanced age, I'm reminded that such things are not good for me, like too much sugar or alcohol, so I must abstain.

This thread was mean to provoke a response from the membership, and really failed miserably.

I would have thought that discussion of the revealing female fashion might have god some red blood coursing through some veins, but it didn't.

Do we actually have any female members?

Or are we becoming like the Private Mens Clubs where the elderly members sip their brandy and doze in a corner?

Oh well!
It's not that I was born in Ireland,
It's the Ireland that was born in me.

Fashions are always being revised Toyo. Started at the dawn of time.
The seriousness or lack there of is inherently going to be based on whether a problem exists in the mind of the individual.

For me there is none.

best.

Just give me a minute to finish my brandy, and have the steward bring me a strong coffee, and I will compose a reply Toyomotor.

If western women are plates of meat, we should remark the generalize idea that Muslim clerics just speak bull-sh*t.

Pinguin, that would not be polite, and I wouldn't say that because, as you know, I'm a gentleman.Smile
