In recent weeks, the USA has been challenged on land, on the sea and now in the air.

On land, Iran and Russia are apparently ignoring all past treaties and agreements on the development of nuclear weapons. Politically, China and Russia are holding hands, for the time being anyway, in threatening the USA.

Chinese Navy vessels have on several occasions sailed perilously close to US Navy ships in the South China Sea, to warn them away from what China claims are it's territorial water. This claim despite UN rulings to the contrary. President Xi Lin Ping has ordered his generals to "prepare for War".

More recently, a US Air Force plane was "buzzed" by a fully armed Russian SU27 jet fighter over the Black Sea, which passed close to the much slower and cumbersome US plane, and then turned sharply and ignited afterburners so that the American plane suffered the full consequences of it's power. The potential for tragedy was very real.

One would hope that the US and it's allies are also girding their loins for battle in a heightened preparation should that war come.

War!
What is it good for?
IBM,
CNN,
ABC.

Not that I am anti-capitalist, more like anti-media elite.

But Iran, Russia and China are not "threatening" America, they're making noise, and talking big.  They are not an existential threat to America, by any measure, although they may be an existential threat to some of our allies.  With Donald Trump at the helm, there may be more chance of a miscalculation that would foolishly commit us to something.  For not supporting an ally at the wrong time can lead to war, just as much as supporting them at the wrong time might lead to war as well.  It is a question of the right response, not too little, nor too much, but all right.

It would seem that Russia is planning to regard the Black Sea, and neighbouring Azov, as their own particular 'lake'. Those of you who saw the news footage of a Russian ship ramming a Ukrainian tug in the Straits of Kerch must be keenly aware that Russia is playing gunboat diplomacy, and indeed, always has, given that their military intrusions of British airspace continue from the Cold War and continue to be intercepted by RAF fighters.

War is good for the arms manufacturers and military industries, agreed. But in these uncertain times, I think it would be unwise not to have military measures in place, just in case.

I fully support the USA exercising it's right of free passage on the high seas, and in international airspace.

The seizure by Russia of three Ukrainian naval ships, after having fired on them, in my view, is Russia virtually saying, "And what are you going to do about it?"

The United Nations is far too weak to lift a finger against Russia or China, and this attitude is reinforced by Russia and China being two of the countries with powers of veto in the UN.

Being a hawk by nature, I would be inclined to send several naval battle groups to the South China Sea, and station for, for the time being anyway, in the Black Sea.

Russia and China, if unchecked militarily, will take advantage of weaknesses in western policy and claim even more neighbouring territories.

Although Australia has foolishly sold off its' Aircraft Carriers many years ago, it still needs to join in any shows of force in the South China Sea before Chinese claims extend to the Philipines and to smaller archipelago nations.
