There are 2 very similar words with subtle, yet substancial differences in meaning: racism and racialism.

"Racialism" is the belief that humans could be divided into clear-cut races with fundamental biological differences; that affect not only looks, but also behaviour, intelligence, instincts, resistance to diseases, and psychology. It was a very popular "science" in the 19th and first half of the 20th century. One of the major proponents of "racialism" was Carlton Coon.

"Racism" is an extension on "racialism", believing that some races are more superior to others, thus justifying the enslavement and extermination of the inferior. Nazi Germany was the prime example.

Today, "racialism" is a very marginal belief, yet it still exists. On the internet I've come across several forums and sites that are run by "racialists", who do not consider themselves to be "racist" because they don't believe that the differences make one superior and the other. They claim that modern anthropology downplays the difference in race due to political correctness; and that if you took politics out of the question; Coon's theory would be perfectly valid.

The question is: I don't know whether "racialists" genuinely exist, or they are just "racists" trying to spread their propaganda in a more benign way.
