I'll be up front - I am, for lack of a better definition, an Agnostic. For the longest time now I have sought to find the appropriate resources to finally edge my faith either wholly toward the holy or entirely toward evolution. I've looked high and low across the web, hoping to discover voices of reason on both sides to only encounter a series of dogmatic preachers for each point of view. Even before the web and in the current reality, it was and is impossible to find objective voices. Thankfully there has been the occasional gem such as http://believethenleaveb.tumblr.com/" rel="nofollow - Believe then leave but again, such voices are few and far between.

This is why I've come here, to ask all of you where do you go to seek a balanced point of view regarding religion and its role in our world?

I believe religion is a personal matter, that shouldn't be public. Anyone should believe what it wishes, given it doesn't try to convince the rest his/her are the only truth. Tolerate the weird cosmologies of fellow human been should be the rule.

I am also agnostic; therefore I don't care to prove God exists or it doesn't. I simply don't know.

There are things we can know for sure, and the way to go forth is to base our observations and conclusions on that. For instance, while many have predicted magic as an explanation for events, none have proven this to be true, so we can conclude that magic does not exist. So, if there is a God, He does not work through magic. Instead, he works through a series of events which have logical explanations and procedures. We know that logic exists because we can prove it, but we need to find out if the same applies in other areas of the universe. The only way to do this is to explore and test experiments as we go. As we learn more and more about the universe, we can understand what the forces that govern it are like more and more, and, at the same time, we can explore more and more about ourselves.

Having said that, we should look at ourselves closely. As we examine our history, we see that we went from primitive to barbaric, to civilized, to mechanized, to computerized. As we took each leap, we learned to control aspects of our surroundings. We learned to domesticate animals, create villages, create cities, create machines and computers. Each step enabled us to create more, to the point that we are now able to clone and even bring back species that are extinct. We are also able to destroy more. At first we could destroy each other, then villages, then cities, and now we can destroy the world.

If we keep going forward, we should, in time, be able to control galaxies, create them and destroy them. Then, if we think about God, we see a power that is able to control, create and destroy. Here, we are not just talking about galaxies, but the universe. However, if God can create and destroy the universe, then this would be something He would not need to exist. So, when we talk about God, we are talking about a power that does not need time, space nor matter to exist and can create this. The only way to know for sure what that is is to explore beyond the universe. This is something that won't happen in the near future, but it may someday be within the grasp of humanity.

In the meantime, we need to ask ourselves what force governs the universe. My best answer is that logic does, which indicates that God is logic. The thing to do from here on is to explore and test this as we go.
