Edward, the Black Prince, lived from 1330 to 1376.
He was the eldest son of King Edward III and Queen Philippa of England.
Had he not predeceased his father, he would have succeeded to the throne as King Edward IV.
Prince Edward was the Prince of Wales. He was called "Edward of Woodstock" in his early life after his birthplace.
The name "the Black Prince" may be derived from Edward's black shield or his black knight armor.
