I was inspired by a comment from glce2003 in another thread, currently unbeknown to him, to start this thread; Primarily because of my belief and doubt for my memory being horribly sketchy since my school days on this subject. It has left me too wonder if  there is anything new being taught that wasn't being taught from several decades ago and as well as to what we all could benefit from this discussion.

So with a tip of my hat to him, let's please discuss the landing site(s) of the three initial Roman divisions, with welcomed views for the modern controversies for where they, the Romans, had actually landed?

Followed with what had transpired from the point of permanent physical contact after the invasion force landed around 43 A.D. until the Romans left about 410 A.D.? Discussions such as: the bitter battles between the Romans and those who actively opposed them. The construction of buildings (ex. Dwellings) and engineering (ex. Complex infrastructure to support the Roman state) during this time period and the differences between ideas of imported vs. domestic design. The treaties the Romans had established with the more peaceful native Britons. The daily life of Briton and Roman alike during this period on the Isles or anything else one can think of?

Don't you think, Panther, than an appropriate beginning should start with old Julius and the commencement of contact in the period 58-51 BC?

After finishing a translated "Agricola" (Tacitus) a few weeks ago I may ask who did it, and when did they do it - relating conquest. And I may even add  "why" - the main motives (though perhaps much of it depends on want of personal glory, not least by the otherwise perhaps not so glorious Claudius). Was Agricolas achievements that important? Or Vespasians?

Yeah, i had thought about that and had decided to rather focus if possible, on the moment they set foot on the isles tell the moment they left. I may yet have to fix the opening thread too include the first hundred years? But i would rather keep it as simple as possible and try to just focus on the perimeter already set. Perhaps - maybe the initial contacts of and after Julius and the break down of relations between isle inhabitants and Rome prior to the invasion a hundred years later could be further explored in another thread, unless we have already have done so on the forum?
