I watched,  Drag Me to Hell..

It was so unexpected how some parts which were suppose to  be
scary turned to  be funny...

Could only watch half of the 'Bonfire of the Vanities' - read the book a couple of weeks ago and was excited by the film when I heard it would be on tonight. Made me want to get sick - the acting was so f-ing bad. Tom Hanks was a saving grace but every single other actor was terrible. And everything was so terribly tacky and badly shot. The dialogue was imported in some scenes from the book, but it just didn't come off in camera - it looked terribly wooden. And then they invented some of their own dialogue which just pales in comparison to Wolfe's insights.

Maybe its the comparison to Wolfe's writing, since he did internal dialogue very well. I don't think that can properly transferred on screen...

Oh! The new Star Trek was really good. I felt that they had managed to distance themselves from the, lets face it, rather preachy and pretentious attributes of many of the later series of the franchise. They also managed to cater to the old guard as well - there were endless nuances and subtleties to catch on to! However, one problem was that they didn't show...a...single...Daedalus class starship! grrr

I saw the new Star Trek in Bakerfield, CA and thought it was very good and the actors really played their parts good. Only the Spock character really looked close to the original.

I saw the Hittites, a Turkish movie but in an English version narrated by Jeremy Irons. I highly recommend it. It was consise and informative. It was also the first time i heard Hittite phrases spoken by people. Glorious! Smile

..watched 'Threads' again last night, a BBC drama/film made in 1984 about the effects of a nuclear attack on Britain and the city of Sheffield in particular, seen through the experiences of a number of inhabitants of the city....still quite disturbing even after all these years and an essential piece of 'Cold War' imagery......

..all the best....AoO...

I'm jealous of you Cahaya. I set out with friends to see Transformers 2 last night, but a last minute decision meant we ended up seeing "Year One". Arguably the worst movie I have ever seen.

When I saw the movie posters for 'Year One' I thought, "Hmm, looks like a relatively interesting premise with two actors who have done entertaining work in the past". But then I read the wiki page and Jack Black said that the humour in the movie was more like Monty Python. Then the Brit heritage in me was outraged that an American film would try to be Python-esque. I now have no will to see it. Also, the reviews were terrible.

On a more positive note, Coraline was great. I'm not normally a stop-motion fan but I am a Neil Gaiman fan and that settled it. Thank god for illegal downloads so I could actually see it =P

Jack Black said the humour was like MONTY PYTHON?!? This is an outrage, not only because of the fact that they'd try to emulate Monty Python, but also because it was the most non-Monty Python-esque (to use your word) trash I have ever seen. Please, do not see it.

WELL, so said wiki. The article's since been changed, as I read it before it had been released and it was still speculation. So either they completely failed in their attempt to make a Python-esque film, or Jack Black has innocently mistaken the nature of Monty Python.

In the last week or so I have watched:

Sex Drive, a rude-ish comedy about this guy who travels 9 or so hours across the US to meet a chick he met on the internet but in the end ends up with his friend who he has always had a crush on.

Role Models, Thumbs Up is all I can say about it. Quite a good comedy.

Postal, Violent with some humour. Certainly Uwe Boll's best...not that means much...

Hannah Montana The Movie, Went and saw this with two other mates of mine (both male as well) as we are all big Hannah/Miley fans and it wasn't too bad a film. Bit too much singing scenes IMO but still good.

Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen, If it wouldn't have been so gross and disturbing I would have creamed myself multiple times in response to this film. Hopefully you understand that joke to work out how much I loved this movie Wink

I watched The Prestige and the Illusionist, very good movies though i wish i had watched the Illusionist first and the Prestige after, because the latter is more realistic magic while the former is raising dead people, turning seeds into trees etc. My state of mind after the Prestige was explainable magic and tricks not Disney magic.

The historical setting was nice though.

Over the past two days I've seen Star Trek and Transformers:  Revenge of the Fallen.  I also rented Transformers (2007) before seeing the sequel, so I would be up to speed.

I went into Start Trek a definite skeptic, I was not a fan of the original series and I really was disappointed to see the next movie was not going to continue the storyline from the previous ones.  However, after seeing it I can say I have been converted.  I found it just fantastic, I have seen all the films with the original cast, and on that I thought the new actors did a great job capturing the essence of their characters.  Another pleasant surprise was Nemoy's cameo, I was afraid it would come off poorly, but it worked well for me.

Both transformer movies I enjoyed immensely; the effects, from all three films of the films, are some of, if not, the best I've ever seen.  (of course being the most recent by release date small wonderWink)  Especially breathtaking are the transformers, I was just in awe of them.   I can say I'll be purchasing all three on DVD.  (the highest recommendation I can giveSmile)

El Cid(1961) Amazing movie, great music and beautiful Spanish landscapes with impressive fortresses. The costumes of the Knights and the Muslim soldiers was very interesting.  It's 48 years old but ten times better than most of the historical movies being produced these days by Hollywood.

I just saw Michael Mann's Public Enemies starring Johnny Depp as Dillinger and Christian Bale as Melvin Purvis.
A realy good movie trying to describe who John Dillinger was and what drove him. But... nothing tops his "Heat" with Al Pacino and Robert de Niro, best movie ever describing to men on both sides of the law. Lovely<3

Hahaha!

I don't usually like horror movies because there all so cliche and predictable anymore.  However, when the sci-fi and horror genres are combined, especially with the setting in space, it makes for a truely terrifying experience!  Have you ever seen Event Horizon?
