King Kang of Mu yes critics praised the neutrality of the film and how it didn't turn one side into demons and the other into saints.

I  know 'Welcome to Dongmakgol', i saw it last year on mysoju, the concept is genius and the boar scene was hilarious.LOL  There is something fresh about Korean movies, case in point:

Ahhh Old Boy......  Cool violent scenes were one thing, the plot twist was just a unadulterated mind f*ck.

yes, they are called 'the Vengeance Triology', Old Boy was the seond one, Lady Vengeance was the third and the last.  Yes the same director.  there sre no continuous plot among these three, but they are all about someone getting locked up for years and ploting a great vengeance and the emptiness that sweeps you away once it is accomplished.  Many cast members in Old Boy are also in Lady Vegeance, including Yoo Ji Tae the actor who played Old Boy himself.  But they are all given the new roles for Lady usually very contrasting from the roles they had in Old Boy.

The director's name is Park Chan Wook.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Park Chan-wook (born August 23, 1963 in the Tanyan area of Jecheon) is a South Korean film director and screenwriter. One of the most acclaimed and popular filmmakers in his native country, Park is most known for his films Joint Security Area and what has become known as The Vengeance Trilogy, consisting of 2002's Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance, Oldboy in 2003 and Sympathy for Lady Vengeance in 2005. His films are noted for their immaculate framing and brutal subject matter.

In a May 2004 interview with The Hollywood Reporter, when asked who influences him, Park's response was: Sophocles, Shakespeare, Kafka, Dostoevsky, Balzac, Kurt Vonnegut and others.[1] In an interview for Lady Vengeance, Park listed: Alfred Hitchcock, Robert Aldrich, Ingmar Bergman, Sam Fuller, Roman Polanski and the Korean director, Kim Ki-young, as cinematic influences.......

Yes, it is about King Jumong who established Gogoryo kingdom the mightiest Korean dynasty which lasted several centuries and fought against Han (Chinese) empire and several other strong chinese dynasties. Jumong links right now works in mysoju.

If you are looking for Mythical and historical Korean Series I recommend the Legend. You can watch it in mysoju.

@ King Kang of Mu:

Do you know any good movie regarding General Yi sun shin?

I don't know any recent movie about him, old ones are probably not in net. One of the reaon why there isn't a recent great Korean film about their greatest military leader is because of this TV show which became so definitive, that hard to top it with 2 hour movie.

For a mythical and historical....(about Gojoseon and Goguryeo myths)
Tae Wang Sa Shin Gi Drama1-2 (sorry, can't find 1-1)

Edit, I guess 'The Legend' was the English name for "Tae Wang Sa Shin Gi".....Embarrassed  I did not know that

Another historical,

File:Musa2001TheatricalMoviePoster.jpg

Synopsis

In the 14th century, a failed Korean political envoy attempts to rescue a Ming princess from Mongols in an effort to save Korea's relationship with China.

for a Korean high school themed, Old Boy in school?

File:Once Upon a Time in High School movie poster.jpg

Spirit of Jeet Kune Do: Once Upon a Time in High School (Korean: 말죽거리 잔혹사) is a 2004 South Korean drama film. The background of the film is set in a high school in South Korea, 1978. The original Korean title literally means "Cruel history of Maljuk street" where filming was located in the present neighborhood of Yangjae-dong, Seocho-gu district, Seoul.[1][2]

 Plot

Kwon, who starred as Hyun-soo, transfers to another school. He is sent to a bottom-rank class and experiences violence in classroom by a group of gangsters in his class, led by Jong-hun, who is a stereotypical Korean bully in school. The teachers are also depicted as authoritarian to the students, using violence for the sake of discipline, as did most Korean teachers in the '70s and to some extent in modern days as well.......

Nothing requires a greater effort of thought than arguments to justify the rule of non-thought.

Geee, you guys watch more Korean movies than I do....ShockedClap
I might have to turn this thread into 'Seen Any Korean Movies Recently?' thread before i come up with something you two haven't seen.Wink

for another historical, seen this one?

Historical connection
Main article: Empress Myeongseong

Empress Myeongseong was considered as the last empress of Korea because of the Eulmi Incident (also called Operation Fox Hunt).

something historical(kinda) yet funny like in the spirit of 'Bill and Ted's Back to the Future to 'Dongmakgol'....

천군 CHUN GOON 予告編 (The Heaven's Soldiers)

The film begins with high-level military leaders from both sides discussing the surrender of a North Korean 50 MT nuclear warhead in a secret underground development bunker near the DMZ. The warhead was secretly jointly-designed, but international pressure has forced North (and South) Korea to hand over the device and close the facility. North Korean officer Major Kang, displeased with the conciliation of the Koreas, rebels and steals the warhead along with several of his loyal soldiers, even killing some North Korean guards in the process. Due to the top-secret nature of the meeting, the leaders of both sides cannot request reinforcements to apprehend the officer, and instead dispatch a South Korean special forces platoon that was present at the meeting.

The platoon intercepts the rebellious Kang and his squad by boat and begin a firefight in the dead of night. However, in the middle of the conflict a comet travels dangerously close to Earth - and this causes a "time rift" linking the present with other points in the comet's 433-year cycle of close approaches to the Earth. Three modern Korean men from each side (and one woman scientist, Dr. Kim, kidnapped along with the warhead) unintentionally and to their surprise find themselves time traveling back from 2005 to 1572......

I haven't seen those two movies yet though, the latter's concept is interesting, modern weapons in medieval times, i will check that one out for sure.

..tonight, i watched Anvil!! The Story of Anvil, about the Canadian heavy metal band and their quest for rock stardom...to be honest, any heavy metal documentary will appeal to my sensibility, but this film was just great..you cannot help but warm to the main characters (Lips and Rob) and admire their dedication and heart-felt commitment to their craft and their dreams...(not to mention their life-long friendship and all the highs and lows that brings)..

...a funny and entertaining film but equally poignant and very moving...not something that is normally associated with the genre....very inspiring and i would recommend this film not only to rock fans, but those who perhaps would side-step the movie because of its heavy metal topic....lovely stuff....no, really.....ClapClapClap
