There is a great musical history of South Asian music. This history was built by some legend musician. Such as Rabindranath Thagur, Pandit Ravi Shankar, Hariprashad Chourashia, Bishmillah Khan and so on. The great Indian Classical music is now a researchable concept for the world.

Are you specifically talking about India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh? I know a lot of musical instruments from India have been used in many other countries due to trade and the bringing over of Indian religions and culture like the Shehnai which can be found throughout SEA called also the Shehnai or Saranai which came from Parts of Northern India.
