It was King Karl Johan himself who chose the location of the castle.
As early as 1822 Karl Johan had decided to build his residence on a solitary rise outside the town of Oslo.
The Bird Room is the antechamber to the King's audience room.
The Mirror Hall takes its name from the mirrors in the door panels and is one of the most splendid rooms in the castle.
The large ballroom is the most impressive room in the castle.
