...by Royal Marines.

I think this kind of abhorrent thing has happened enough times to assume that such Gestapo like behaviour by the coalition troops are not not simply isolated cases, but rather widespread. I don't believe for one second that this could have happened without the knowledge of some level of brass.  And I frankly can't fathom the kind of mindframe that would lead one to perpetrate such things and the sickest thing about it for me is that I paid for it to happen with my hard earned taxes that this criminal government is squandering.

You are right in that a series of 'unfortunate incidents' tends to create a pattern. But how large is that pattern? I've always opposed the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan (Afghanistan being the dictionary definition of an unwinable conflict) Should there be a public inquiry?

People who like to think of themselves as some sort of neo-Machiavelli can go on and on about long term national interests etc. on occupying Iraq (the moral integrity of its invasion notwithstanding) however, the fact is that we do not have a window into the decision making that leads to such unmitigated debacles. There are no ostensible or realised benefits for us, the ordinary citizens, therefore we are left to judge them on the information that we do have and, on that basis my conclusions on Iraq can only be that it is has been an indefensible and futile act of aggression on:

+ A moral level: the lies used to justify it
+ The humanitarian level: the hundreds of thousands of innocents killed
+ National interest level: it has become a haven for Al Qaeda and receptive to Shia extremism from Iran.
+ The economic level: the trillions it is costing the taxpayer, who've received no benefit what so ever from it.

The only real winners in this have been the oil, construction, and defense contractors as well as Israel, with whom the various militant belligerents and proponents of war in the Bush administration were/are aligned in one seedy way or the other.  This in itself tells a story.

A public inquiry? At the very least and, at the very best, a mini Nuremburg trial.

Well I was talking about a public inquiry into war crimes, not into the causes of the war (A show trial is taking place in Britain already) Its hard to get controversial with someone I primarily agree with, so I'll leave it at that.

Oh the irony... Alastair Campbell,  THE New Labour spin doctor, claiming that he DIDN'T exaggerate in the Dodgy Dossier. LOL  What a rat!
