I am noticing a slight problem.  Most the post are several years old and no longer a topic of interest.  How about archiving this stuff and removing everything more than a year old?

Also how about emailing people who posted here and have stopped posting?  A small group is nice but I am realizing this one is a little too small.  I know I have responded to emails from forums where I became inactive.  It is nice to be acknowledged.

What are the most relevant topics today?

I personally don't like forums archiving old threads/topics, its a pain.

Many internet forums have similar troubles the last number of years since social media like facebook came along etc. Not sure why Historum has a high activity.
Many people are not readers. "Experts" say they are too "busy" to bother with forums etc.
Also maybe some old poorer posters lost their web/net since all the broadband and os changes the last few years?
The rivalry between AE & WH & Historum also lost some posters.

What is relevant is a better question. One also has to figure out the psychology of tapping peoples interest.

Historum has a moderator who is very good at driving people away and with him is a horde of followers who make historum very unpleasant.  This forum is far superior because it does not have that negative element.

I have also participated a few years in a political forum where I swear the members there must wake up in the morning excited about who they will insult next.  To me their insults and general disrespect ruin the forum, but being rude and insulting seems to be a popular activity at both the political forum and Historum.

I really like this forum for the number of times I am asked to provide a guote or validation.   It seems people here are sincerely interested in information and discussion.   The people I associate with refuse to get involved with forums because they have no interest in being insulted and disrespected.  They have been so burnt they won't even try any more.

I think in most countries people are wanting good leadership but do not have a well developed idea of what that means.  Also our focus on science and technology is almost like the worship of a god we trust to save us, while we are ignoring the lessons of history.  Approve  I just had an insight.  We need more than one god because we need different points of view.  Each god and goddess is a concept and a set of ways of tackling a problem.  We need all of them for balance.

Athena

We try to keep World Historia open to old and new readers, and some of the "old" posts get updated as more information becomes available.

As for behaviour, if everyone reads and abides by the forum Code of Conduct we should have no problems. Rude behaviour and name calling will simply not be tolerated.

You've made an impressive start to your membership, keep up the good work. Handshake

The whole point of doing this is preserve a record. We would not be here, were it not for the old posts.
The topics can be resuscitated but there are no plans to delete.

Your contributions are appreciated and they have the same immunity from deletion as long as you play nice.Wink

Playing nice is very important and I am puzzled by why this forum is not more popular than the ones run by complete jerks who think personal attacks are a good way of winning arguments, when they don't know enough to make a good argument.  I suspect dealing with well informed people is a negative experience for poorly informed people and they seek forums that function at their level.   As I tried to get the children in my family to understand, to know something and be good at it, takes work.  That is why they are paid better for what they know.   And keeping up with you guys is a challenge.

I was just concerned that not noticing the last time something was posting was 3 years ago, would be a problem here.  Glad to know that is not a problem.

If you didn't yet notice, on your Member Control Panel, the 'subscriptions' file you can find any thread that you contributed to.

I've been burnt by two other online forums before coming here, and I find this forum to be interesting, informative and entertaining.

Besides that, there are some very nice people who are members here.

That we don't have a very high participation rate doesn't worry us, as long as our members enjoy the experience.

I wish it were that simple, but no matter how nice people are, emotions can make a mess of things.  Staying rational and not getting intolerably emotional is sometimes a problem for me and I worry a lot about saying things that trigger negative emotions in others too.  I had such a bad emotional reaction to something that was said in another thread, I used a medication to prevent having that emotional again.  I wish I could always remain calm and logical but I doubt that using a medication daily is the answer.   Like in some of the Star Trek shows, I realize our emotions are important to our humanness and that is not all bad, nor all good.
