In a lecture on youtube, called, "Is fake news a myth?" journalist Sharyl Attkisson talks about transactional journalism.  Basically, "i'll scratch your back if you scratch mine.  Originally fake news was a term that liberals that used to disparage and dismiss conservatives.  Trump appropriated the term and uses it to attack the media, especially when they conspire to agree on how to report the news.  The left who invented the term, has given it up, saying that it was a creation of Donald Trump.  That is not true, but forgetting is, for the media convenient.  The ancient Greeks considered forgetting a form of lying, and in this case, for big news outlets (or maybe I should say BIG news outlets) I think that there selective vision is a form of lying.

The fake news always existed, only the subject and scope changes. The Washington Post during the last years of Vietnam War, broke the story of Washington running computer simulations ordered by Mac Namara; results showed there was no way to 'win'. Further engagements would only achieve higher kill rates on both sides and that became the mission long before the WP published the story. It was classified information, so there was no story technically-Loose Lips Sink Ships!- but the WP was willing to publish the story anyway.
The press protected Roosevelt on his weak legs, JFK and female company veiled by pictures of Caroline and John-John. And now the worm has turned the media is tag teaming the Executive Branch with the Fourth Estate.

IMO, media has been justifying the use of unsubstantiated stories from unnamed sources, outright making things up and behave as though they act for the greater good. After all this is Trump, not Meryl Streep and Tom Hanks in a movie about the Washington Post having to take justice-with their hands!Wink

At one time, transactional journalism was understood to be an unethical journalistic practice.  Now, it is totally considered appropriate to engage in "gotcha!" journalism, as long as you are getting the "right" people.  Of course, it is also well understood who those people are, they are anyone the media says they are, and don't question the media, because after all, we know better than you do.

I guess Rush Limbaugh and other radio conservatives track the responses to democratic speakers over the different news outlets.  The news outlets echo each other, using the same phrases to describe the speech 'as if' they were taking it from a central script.  Talk radio is a conservative phenomenon, because talk radio is a reaction to the liberal bias in the regular media.  There is not enough conservative bias in the regular media to talk about on the radio, but there is plenty of liberal bias, to go on and on about.

How does the country like being played for fools? Not very much. In fact the media and certain members of the dnc have called for attacks on public figures or even a stranger if it is obvious that they support Trump, conservatism or white people who are alone or unarmed or perhaps elderly. Their followers respond and put it on youtube.

Hollywood will never be the authority on morality but they will dictate morality to the rest of the country.  Weekly proof of the Leftist hypocrisy is not unnoticed even as the "twitter" mentality morphed into the supposed news. It isn't news since facts are selective or invented. This latest Ukrainian story was bait IMO, it shows again the media is agenda driven not news driven.

Conservative radio is surging in popularity bc the Leftist wing of the democrat party is terrifying. Yes the candidates are all humming the same tune- America is horrible and everything is going to be banned or taxed!
yea that gets you elected.
Polls show that most people lie to pollsters. The open borders crowd is most terrifying, the issue is no longer the economy it's the illegal voter base that open border proponents dream of.

Where does this lead us? The Leftists will pile defeated candidates like San Fran trash since they are playing a long game. The Left wants to move the Overton Window to the end of the line, a globalist free for all. Conservative boundaries are in the way and lies are justified since right wing fringe has been foolish to argue about whether we should be responsible stewards of the earth. The issue isn't political but tools make it fit, just ask that over medicated Greta kid, the climate princess is "woke" right? She should know that the war Against anything is doomed and everything is political.
Everyday -not in your face- people are cleaning up the planet you won't see stories about these activists.

In addition to being dependent on the ideas that form the boundaries of the political climate, politicians are also known to be self-interested and desirous of obtaining the best political result for themselves.[2] Therefore, they will almost always constrain themselves to taking actions within the "window" of ideas approved of by the electorate. Actions outside of this window, while theoretically possible, and maybe more optimal in terms of sound policy, are politically unsuccessful.

Rahm Emmanuel said never let a crisis go to waste, now the left is busy hyping about crises, not all of which are legitimate and most of which are not legitimate in the way they are presented.  But, if you stampede the herd, you can get them to go anywhere, including off a cliff.  And don't worry about getting it wrong, the herd won't remember that the stampede was your fault in the beginning.  FDR handled the depression poorly, but that is forgotten in the hagiography.

Immigrant tend to vote democrat (over 90%), and so yes, I do think there is that self-interest aspect that the democrats have as far as illegals are concerned.  Get them in first, then try to figure out how to do an amnesty.  I can't imagine that the reason why Reagan did an amnesty was ever so cynical as that of the left.

Will anyone remember that the media were led to the story of a Ukrainian sweetheart deal involving Joe Biden and his son?
Media is trying to condemn Trump after being baited into paying attention to a legitimate abuse of power situation by the former administration. The problem for media is not that Biden's unqualified son served on a Ukrainian energy board making $50,000 a month. The problem is that Trump asked the Ukrainian president, Volodymyr Zelensky, for help in uncovering this con.

Biden on video bragging about threatening the Ukrainian aid package unless they fired a prosecutor, Viktor Shokin, who was looking into "illegal enrichment" with Burisma the very company paying Biden's unqualified son. The UK tried to look into the Burisma corruption in 2014 but lost access to the prosecutor Shokin, who is now in hiding.

John Solomon wrote the Ukraine story and the mainstream media has a twisted version of events in Ukraine that make Hunter & Joe Biden into heroes. So there it is, modern media.

What did Biden do?
Did Obama admin sink Ukraine? More 'flexibility' after the election, yes Obama! And then Putin annexed Ukraine.

Mention where the stories are found, preferably on line.   I do not think that Biden's son is pure as the driven snow, it is like the Kennedy's owning the mobile phone contract for Haiti (all of Haiti, I am sure they just stumbled on to that investment), Mary Anastasia O'Grady mentioned this in a WSJ (Wall Street Journal) editorial years ago.  But, what Trump did was not justified, no matter how badly he wanted to catch, what, Hunter(?) with his thumb in the pie.  Two wrongs don't make a right.  Just because one person is doing wrong, doesn't mean someone else is justified in taking retribution.  It is a good lesson for the democrats too.

This is recent, all inclusive with Burisma's American legal team whose documents proved the Obama admin knew about Biden's shenanigans and apologized for it

CORRECTION: We’ve taken down video that aired on “World News Tonight" Sunday and “Good Morning America” this morning that appeared to be from the Syrian border immediately after questions were raised about its accuracy. ABC News regrets the error.

It is not transactional journalism per se, but in Presidential elections the press often shoots off questions to Republican candidates that are 'zingers' and are meant to damage candidate rather than inform about anything substantive.  For example, in the McCain/Obama election a reporter asked McCain how many houses did he have, to which McCain answered, "I don't know."  That answer was interpreted by the media as McCain being so out of touch with the voter, that he did not know how many houses he had.

But, of course if he has a rental property, is that his house or his tenant's house,  How about a condo in the DC area, is that a house?  How about a cabin?  How about owning the mortgage on his daughter's house? it all depends what "a house" means depending on the text.  What about his wife's house, she after all was the one with money in the family?

Is, "how many house do you have?" really a news question?  These kind of gotcha! questions don't typically asked of democrats.

A woman reporter asked Trump about his treatment of woman, another gotcha! question, Trump however, turned it into a joke about his ongoing feud with Rosie O'Donnell.  That is one reason why religious conservatives like him, the media came up with their best cheap shots, and they fell up short.  The comedian Joe Rogan talks about that.  Some comedians appreciate Trump's skill in throwing it back into the media's face.  That doesn't mean they like what he does, just his verbal sparring skills.

Sorry you have lost me here. Are you under the impression that foreign aid just gets deposited with no questions asked?
The reason our government uses economic sanctions is bc we won't appear to be subsidizing tyrants, human rights abuses, terrorism etc.
Like it or not Trump is diplomat in chief, he is the highest ranking diplomat and he can dictate foreign policy.
Joe Biden is on tape bragging about withholding aid. Trump is asking for Zelensky's help in investigating Burisma and Hunter. Three countries want to investigate Joe Biden's part in having the prosecutor fired who was investigating Hunter Biden! The US, UK and Ukraine are all on record during the Obama admin about the sudden loss of the Ukrainian prosecutor including Obama's Apology to Ukraine.

If you can say they are the same two wrongs after 3 years of sadistic media hoax on Trump (and the country)then we just disagree.Beer

I have the impression that Trump wasn't "asking," he was telling.  He also was telling in a manner that was inappropriate for his office, something that would benefit him, not something that would make sense in anything but a personal way of having his backscratched.

I think that you, V, think that for some reason Trump's crooked dealings are somehow justified by an investigation into Hunter's or Biden's or Clinton's or Obama's, or the Easter bunny's crooked dealings.

Trump doesn't have enough sense to not sh-t in public, he may "only" be guilty of being a bull in a china shop, but he still is a bull in a china shop.  He does damage anywhere he turns, or of course you could adopt the attitude that what he is doing is actually some kind of supra-genius.  If one claims that wherever you go is where you planned to be... Well, I hope you get the picture.

If you mean by media hoax, the fact that Trump is not the darling of the powers that be, I would agree.  How could he be when he uses every opportunity he can (and then some) to piss people off.  Maybe you don't want "business as usual," but I think it is a little disengenuous to expect him to shake things up (everything up), but not expect people to react, and yes, try to protect their interest when he does.  But, they are not just protecting their interests, they are trying to do things right/correctly/"good."  In other words, those two things are blurred, for Trump as well.  What is good for Trump is good for the American people? sounds like l'etat ce moi.  I am just hoping that we won't swing crazy to the left in response to him, which in turn was a crazy swing in response to a crazy swing with Obama.

Well fransicosan, you are a person that I admire but here we could not be more at odds.
I decline to comment here bc I don't want to be uncivil. If you continue to say these things eventually I will have to respond.
