Business history deals specifically not only with the major corporations which have shaped history, but also the many large organisations which have been a source of labour and economic productivity and which pre-date the corporation as we know it from the Industrial Revolution onwards. Large organisations composed of an organised workforce and distinct management structure have long had an enormous impact on the functioning of society. From the first truly developed management teams working on the Egyptian Pyramids as envisioned by management specialist Peter Drucker, to the very visible global corporations which exist in our own day. These independently functioning non-state organisations, their cultures, norms, makeup, economic basis and their history are all open for discussion here.
