This thread presupposes that God (which God is not disclosed) has all of the human functions and needs as we do.
  1. Which God are we talking about?
  2. Why would God want/need a wife?
  3. What would the wifes purpose be? and
  4. It is all based on the theory that there is a God.

Maybe the presumption is that God is in us. People worshiped the spirit that the goddess artifacts represented. We can be representative of God when we observe truth, beauty, compassion and creativity the obverse, human attributes ; and the flip side of false belief, ugliness, cruelty and destruction the reverse, human attributes and some denial of God in us.

Once again, playing Devils Advocate, your basic presumption is that there is a God, a supernatural all pervasive God, capable of all sorts of things. Your assumption is that there is one God.
Around the world, millions of people will disagree with you, claiming instead that there are a number of gods. Are they necessarily wrong?
Also in many cultures, the gods have different forms and control different aspects of a persons life, are they all wrong too?
Could it be that Christianity, for example, is the greatest hoax ever perpetrated on human kind?

If I might explain the use of the word "God." This is the most easily identifiable label for the First Cause , All That Is, Brahmin etc. There are something like 700 known gods/goddesses world over. One's idea of an all pervasive being will depend on conditioning and in some cases an enlightenment. Near death experience or a miraculous event can shape our ideas about divinity. I have no assumption about gods; its rather that the underlying consciousness of all things is a shared experience by you , me or even a house cat.

Human expression to glorify God is not is wrong. a musician is glorifying God, an artist, a philosopher, a professional athlete, a mother and father, all are transcending average ability because they are connected to the real quality of being alive. The form that this expression takes is not the point. The connection you feel when you are "in the zone" that is divinity emanating through an individual.

As for Christianity, it may not be the greatest hoax but if go back to the time of Constantine, I think this is where Rome adopts and transforms Jesus Christ to serve its own purposes.
Still round the corner there may wait, a new road or a secret gate. (J. R. R. Tolkien)
