I can speak a little Japanese, but I am working on Japanese alphabet. Hiragana, katagana and kanji forms. I have mastered Hiragana and katagana, but I have hard time in Kanji which are imported Chinese characters.

Near native fluency in Spanish, enough French to be able to survive in a francophone country (nowhere near enough to discuss anything complicated), and a few words of Arabic which would be totally useless to me.

I took two years of French in High School (18 and 19 years ago now so it's all but gone) and three semesters of Spanish in College. I also tried my tongue in Japanese and Irish Gaeilge. All in all I can only manage the pleasantries.. (esp. Irish and Japanese). However, I can read and understand Spanish when spoken fairly well.

I am fluent in Mandarin, I also have a good knowledge of Romanian and a rudimentary knowledge of French and Danish. And Russian, of course, is my native.

Arabic is my native tongue. Although I know no Spanish (except the numbers) I can navigate really well in a Spanish language website provided I have a dictionary at hand. I tried to self teach myself Latin 4 years ago and got on pretty well. The only problem was finding a suitable dictionary to help me with words and when I didn't find one so I stopped.

my spanish is pretty good, though sometimes i don't understand what's being said to me especially in a dialect i'm not used to. i've got almost enough mandarin to keep from starving if i was dropped somewhere in china. LOL
not necessarily to speak, but i would love to read tolstoy, dostoyevsky,  solzhenytsin, and others in russian; voltaire, proust, and others in french; jung, kant, hesse, in german; etc; i love to listen to and see all languages though. oh yeah, also a little bit of swahili i got from my sister-in-law, and a smattering from just about every other major language i.e. japanese, hindi/urdu, arabic, and the original languages of the christian bible.
don't believe everything you think. : )

German. I always planned to learn one of the Romance languages and Russian, although it seems less and less likely I ever will Ermm

Any chance of getting the multilanguage fora back? They were excellent for language practice, and frankly, the flame wars aren't likely to break out anymore.

Greek is my native language.
Besides English, I studied German many years (mmm... 10-11 years!) and got an Abitur, but I've already forgotten much of it, let aside the fact that I never was fluent enough.
I tried to self teach myself Turkish. I bought a book, written by Greeks for Greeks, and did the first chapters (including the exercises). It has been some time since then however, and I don't remember much. I may start again sometime, if I'm in the mood.
Is there any thing whereof it may be said, See, this is new?
it hath been already of old time, which was before us.

Norwegian of course, which means I also understand Danish and Swedish. Apart from that I know basic Spanish and a little French from self-study.

Ah, Swedish was not in the list. I speak it natively along with Greek. I understand like you Norwegian with no problem - Danish Confused with a bit difficulty when listening not reading. Dutch sometimes is easier to grasp than a southern Danish speaker speaking Danish.
