I share with you this amazing, impressive and interesting collection of photos showing the various types of winter camouflage applied in Luftwaffe aircraft during World War II, especially in the Theater of Operations of the Russian front. Well I did spot one Hungarian 109 and a Soviet Sturmovik - you're not getting that past me :D
The Luftwaffe only had a bare minimum of camouflage guidance and much painting was left to the units themselves. the variety was considerable - you're quite right in that regard - with a mix of carefully prepared cammo schemes and quickly applied white in any fashion the painter thought might obscure the aircraft outline.
