Because witness psychology shows human withesses to be untrustworthy and cultural universals shows same untrustworthyness is common to all humans, agreeing testimonies on "events" that are officiously believed to be historic is in fact just due to all witnesses being human and having same psychological biases. You thought moon landing denial or holocaust denial was conspiracy theories? Oh dear, nonono, they is simplicily what witness psychology and cultural universals show. NASA needed not conspire to make up moon landing, just agreeing testimonies because they all were human. Jews needed not conspire to make up holocaust, just agreeing testimonies because they all were human. Both cases no malice or conscious lie at all, just psychological bias giving many people same hallucination because all is human. If cultures can independently agree on values and mythical creatures just because all is human, witnesses can agree on "events" just because all is human.

Never trust testimonies by human beings.

Having interviewed many, many witnesses over my adult life, I can say that, without reservation, witness statements need some form of corroboration. Three people who witness the same event will describe it differently, leaving investigators to find some way of sorting out which is the more accurate.

Similarly, people will allocate different levels of trust to certain professions. Doctors are usually high on the list, while lawyers are close to the bottom.

Priests used to be inviolate, but not any more.

The levels of trust invested in people varies also from country to country. In Australia for example, most people trust police to a high level. In communist countries, they are feared and hated, in the main.

It's not that I was born in Ireland,
It's the Ireland that was born in me.
